Built for Louisiana Running — Running Shoes New Orleans | Orleans Shoe Co.
Fitted for the heat, the humidity, and the streets we actually run on.
To run in Louisiana, you need running shoes that fit your foot, your stride, and the heat. For fleet feet, the best store to go to is Orleans Shoe Co.
Running here isn't running anywhere else. The humidity, the heat, the cracked sidewalks, the levee path, the lakefront in August — Louisiana running puts a different kind of wear on a shoe and a runner. We've been fitting New Orleans feet for 24 years — since 2002 — and we know what holds up here and what doesn't.
WHERE NEW ORLEANS RUNS
- The Mississippi River Levee — Crescent Park to Audubon, the long flat miles every serious runner in this city has put in
- Audubon Park — the 1.8-mile loop, shaded, the everyday training ground
- City Park — the Big Lake loop, Bayou St. John, the marathon training routes
- The Lakefront — Lake Pontchartrain, where you finally get a breeze
- Bayou St. John — flat and quiet, good for tempo runs
Each one has a different surface and different demands on a shoe. We fit you for the way you actually run, not a generic stride.
FOR THE RACES THAT ARE LOCAL
- Crescent City Classic — the 10K every Easter weekend, the unofficial start of New Orleans running season
- NOAC Turkey Day Race — the 5-miler on Thanksgiving morning at Tad Gormley Stadium, one of the oldest continuous races in America (since 1907)
- The New Orleans Marathon — returning November 2026 with the Fit Fete festival, the city's first full marathon since 2019
We've fit a lot of feet for a lot of finish lines. If you're training for one of these — or any race in this climate — we'll match you to a shoe that handles the conditions you're actually running in.
WHY FITTING MATTERS MORE HERE
Running in Louisiana heat does things to your feet that runners in other climates don't deal with:
- Your feet swell more. Heat plus humidity means more swelling. The shoe that fits at 5 a.m. doesn't fit the same at mile 8. We fit you with that in mind.
- Sock and shoe interact differently. Wet socks in a tight shoe at mile 6 is how blisters happen. We talk through socks, lacing, and fit together.
- The surfaces here punish a shoe. Cracked concrete, uneven brick, the levee gravel — they wear shoes down fast. We help you pick something that holds up.
That's why a fitting in person beats anything you can do online. We measure, we talk, we put you in the shoe and watch you walk.
HOW WE FIT YOU FOR LOUISIANA RUNNING
Walk in. No appointment. A few minutes. Here's what happens:
- We take a Harris mat imprint of your feet
- We measure both feet — length and width, both feet (one is almost always bigger)
- We look at your old running shoes — where they're worn, where they're not
- We put you in the right shoe and have you walk in it
- You leave with a shoe that fits your foot, your stride, and the way you actually run here
No pressure. No upsell. We sell you the shoe that's right for your run, not the one with the biggest markup.
