Orleans Shoe Co. — Fitted in Person
Men's New Balance
The 880, 860, 1080, 1540 and the made-in-USA 990, with most running styles in D and 4E. Up to 6E and size 16 in the 928 and 990v5.
The thing everybody gets wrong
Wide Isn't a Special Order
Plenty of men assume a 4E has to be ordered. Most of our men's New Balance running shoes come in D and 4E, and the 928 and 990v5 go all the way to 6E. If a shoe squeezes, try the wider width before you try the bigger size.
Which New Balance Is Yours
880v15 — everyday
Neutral cushioning for walking, running and long days standing. The easy first pick.
860v15 — stability
If your arches drop or your shoes wear down on the inside edge, the 860's firmer foam under the arch keeps you lined up.
1080 and More — max cushion
The 1080 is the plush one. The More stacks even more foam under you for concrete floors and long shifts.
1540 — motion control
The most structured New Balance running shoe we carry. For flat feet and heavy overpronation, in D and 4E up to size 14.
990v6 and 990v5 — made in the USA
The classic grey 990, plus navy and black. Made in the USA. The 990v5 runs up to 6E and size 16.
928 — the walker
A leather walking shoe with a firm, stable build. D through 6E, up to size 16.
608 and 696 — cross training and court
The 608 is the leather cross trainer you see at job sites and gyms, in D and 4E. The 696 is a court shoe.
574, 530, 997H and 480 — everyday sneakers
Retro styles for everyday wear. The 530 and 574 are unisex and sized in men's.
How a New Balance Should Fit
- Stand up when you check it. Your foot spreads when it takes your weight
- About a thumb's width past your longest toe
- The widest part of your foot lines up with the widest part of the shoe
- No heel slip when you walk
Men's widths: D is standard, 2E is wide, 4E is extra wide, 6E is extra-extra wide.
Why We Sell So Many of These
Because they come in widths almost nobody else makes. A man who's been buying a size too long just to get the width often drops back to his real size in a 4E. The insoles come out if you wear an orthotic, and the 860 and 1540 are where a lot of men with plantar fasciitis and flat feet land.
