Orleans Shoe Co. — Support in a Flip Flop

      Archies Arch Support Flip Flops

A flip flop with about as much arch support as an orthotic, in a shoe that looks like a normal flip flop. In New Orleans that matters — most of us live in these eight months a year.

      Why we stock them

      Flat Flip Flops Wreck Feet

A standard flip flop is a slab of foam with nothing under the arch, and your toes have to grip to keep it on. Do that all summer and it shows up as heel pain. Archies fix both problems.

      What's Different About Them

      The footbed

Contoured closed-cell foam that supports the arch instead of leaving a gap under it. It molds slightly to your foot with wear, the way a cork footbed does, but it doesn't compress flat the way cheap foam does.

      The strap

Tighter than a standard flip flop, which sounds like a small thing and isn't. A loose thong means your toes clench with every step to hold the shoe on. A snug one lets your foot relax and walk normally.

      What you notice

Most people say their feet are less tired at the end of a day. If you've got plantar fasciitis, these are far better than a flat flip flop for around the house — though they're not a substitute for a real shoe on a long day.

      Who Buys These Here

Nurses and restaurant staff, to change into after a shift. Runners, for recovery days. People with heel pain who don't want to be barefoot on tile at home. And a lot of folks who just live in flip flops from March to November and finally want a pair that isn't punishing them.

      Sizing

They run in whole sizes only, so if you're between, we'll tell you which way to go for your foot. Come in and try a pair — the arch height is noticeable right away, and it's either right for you or it isn't.
