Before you buy a work boot
Steel, Aluminum or Carbon?
If your job requires a safety toe, you've got options. Steel is the strongest and the heaviest. Aluminum is lighter. Carbon fiber is the lightest and has no metal in it. Soft toe is for jobs that don't require a cap. Tell us what you do all day and we'll match the boot to it.
Work Boots
6-inch boots — Pittsburgh, Independence and Cincinnati
The full-height work boot. The Pittsburgh comes in steel or soft toe, the Cincinnati in carbon fiber or soft toe, and the Independence in waterproof soft toe. All in D and EE, up to size 15.
Mid and low — Detroit XT, Flint II, San Jose and Braddock
Lighter boots and work shoes. The Detroit XT comes in steel or soft toe, mid or low, up to size 16. The San Jose comes in aluminum or soft toe. Flint II and Braddock are soft toe, with waterproof mids.
Carbon toe — Targhee Blur and Reno
A safety toe without the weight, for guys on their feet all day.
ESD — Kenton and Detroit ESD
Electrostatic dissipative, for work around sensitive electronics.
Slip-Resistant Work Shoes

Newport Sandals
The sandal Keen is known for, with a rubber bumper over your toes. In Bison and black, up to size 15. Good for the boat, the bayou and a rainy day in the Quarter.
How a Keen Work Boot Should Fit
- Keen is known for a roomy toe box. Your toes should move freely
- A safety toe doesn't stretch. Your toes should never touch the cap
- If the sides press, go to EE before you go up a size
- Try boots on with the work socks you'll actually wear
